According to Eurobarometer data from March 2017, the percentage of smokers in Europe is 28% (119 million) and in Poland 30% (9.6 million).
Poland is among the countries with the highest smoking rates,ahead of Greece, Bulgaria, France, Hungary and Latvia.
Nicotine dependence has a relatively low potential in the context of addiction treatment due to the low level of interest in support:
- 48% of smokers in Poland have ever tried to stop smoking
- 2% (186 thousand) turned to specialists for help.
